sad but true
Thanks to Chinese knock-off DVDs, I have seen more of Keanu Reeves this week than really anyone ought. Is it terrible that watching The Matrix makes me want to teach social theory? It's this line in particular:
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church, or when you pay your taxes.Work! Church! Taxes! Woohoo! Let's bust out that Weber and Durkheim! I don't want to fetishize the movie more than it has already been fetishized, but oooh, that line makes me want to sit down and re-read Elementary Forms of Religious Life. Fortunately, I'll get to do that soon enough.
